Going for a walk

September 16, 2023

How often do you walk or run?

I don’t walk as much as I would like to and now I definitely don’t run anymore. If I walk too far these days my legs feel like they’re on fire and are so painful and the next morning I’m in so much pain and the soles of my feet hurt despite wearing decent trainers. I have Fibromyalgia to thank for that.

I used to love walking, especially where I live because I could go for a nice walk by the sea or in the woods. I am very lucky to live where I do. I used to love going for a nice long walk in the woods especially in the Autumn with all the pretty colours on the trees.

A nice walk along the seafront I used to love. Watching the waves was so relaxing. Near to where I live we have Portchester Castle which overlooks Portsmouth Harbour and has been a Roman fortress, a Norman stronghold and even a prisoner of war camp during the Napleonic Wars. You can enjoy a lovely walk around the grounds and the shoreline and there’s also a church which is where I got married.

About thirteen years ago we went on holiday to Wales and stayed in a converted barn which was set in beautiful countryside with lots of sheep walking by. We did a lot of walking on that holiday and barely saw anyone. The views were spectacular and we came across some lovely waterfalls.

I used to run a lot on the treadmill at the gym and really enjoyed it listening to my music. When I was a lot younger I used to love running by the seafront with my friends especially if it was raining. None of that anymore. Only light walking which is a shame but I’m luckier than a lot of people. I’m just so grateful that I can drive.
